We leave Marrakech at 08:00 and start our 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes, which takes us over the Tizi n’Tichka pass through the High Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate. In 1987, the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and we pass through Ouarzazate, which we call the Hollywood of Africa, as it is a famous destination for filmmakers. Overnight stay in Ouarzazate.
From Ouarzazate we head towards the Dades Gorges, but before that we pass through the Valley of the Roses. We come directly to the Dades Valley, where we can enjoy the beautiful green fig and almond fields. On the way we will pass many hamlets and villages before arriving at Todra Gorges, where we will spend the night in a Kasbah.
From Todra Gorges, we will drive towards Erg Chebbi through arid landscapes and the volcanic mountains of the Antiatlas before passing through the town of Tinjedad, the center of the region. We pass Erfoud, known for its fossil factories, where beautiful shapes and pieces are made from the rocks of the neighboring mountains. Then we drive to the sand sea of Erg Chebbi. We drive deeper and deeper into the desert landscape until dunes appear in the middle of nowhere. Overnight stay on a camel trek in a Berber tent camp.
After breakfast is over, the camels head back to the hotel at the dune line for a quick shower. We head towards Fes, stopping along the way to enjoy the panoramic views over the Ziz Valley before crossing the High Atlas Mountains again. We stopped in a town called Midelt where we are going to have lunch. We pass Azrou and then Ifrane with its huge cedar forest where we can observe monkeys. We will continue on our way to the legendary Medina of Fes.
